OIB Player Strike Ends in Time for Upcoming Season
August 30, 2027; New York, NY- Almost one week ago, an independent committee hired by the Organization of International Basketball identified Chicago Bawn owner Peter Arlington as the source of an online attack against OIB players that was believed to be a tactic designed to gain leverage in ongoing negotiations between players and franchise owners. Arlington’s fellow owners held an emergency meeting to vote him out of the ownership ranks and Arlington has begin accepting formal bids from potential buyers.
Today, OIBPA President Damian McCollum and OIB President Sonya Gutierrez held a dual press conference to announce that the OIB, the players, and the owners have agreed to terms that will bring the ongoing player strike to an end just in time to tip off the 2027-28 season. While the details of the agreement have yet to be publicly shared, it is believed that Arlington’s removal was a recent demand of the OIBPA.

OIB President Sonya Gutierrez and OIBPA President Damian McCollum shake hands, bringing an end to an 8-month long stand-off between the league’s players and owners.
“This is a joyous occasion,” declared Gutierrez when kicking off the press conference. “We have all been working outward this for some time, and despite the efforts of some to derail our discussions, we have prevailed and are thrilled to be looking forward to the upcoming season.”
McCollum added, “I want to thank all those involved, from Ms. Gutierrez and the owners that negotiated in good faith to my peers at the OIBPA and the independent investigative committee. I have been excited for this day and have been waiting to say this: let’s play ball!”.
Fans online have been celebrating the news and making “OIB Strike Ends the top trending topic in the world. The OIB season typically tips off in mid-September, but no date for the league’s first games of the upcoming season has been shared yet.
